Fibre Optics
After the external inspection has been completed and areas of suspect hidden timbers identified using Thermal Imaging and/or Moisture Profiling, it is time to have a closer look. By drilling a hole as small as .08mm, Fibre-Optics can be inserted to concealed or restricted areas where videos and/or still photos can be taken. With the ability to magnify what we are looking at, it makes it easier to identify the fine “cotton-wool” like mycelium growth of Dry Rot. This type of inspection can also detect and help determine if woodworm infestations are present and/or active.
Fibre-Optic imagery can also be used to continually monitor any type of outbreak should it be decided to leave the acknowledged outbreak that has had the environment altered and controlled in the effort to control the spreading of the said outbreak. This has proven to be a very popular option when the removal or damage of the historic internal fabric is too impractical and destructive. Strategically placed access holes can be left in place for future re-inspections and monitoring, similar to those used in Moisture Monitoring.
